Low Impact Solutions for Challenging Ground Conditions

Constructing roads across peatland and other soft ground environments presents unique engineering and environmental challenges. Lotrak® geosynthetics provide effective floating road solutions that help minimise disturbance to the underlying peat while delivering stable, long-lasting access routes. Floating road construction is widely recognised as an efficient method of reducing excavation, limiting environmental impact and maintaining the natural characteristics of peatland environments.

The Right Solution for Every Project

The best floating road solution is not always the same. Unlike single-product approaches, Lotrak® offers both woven geotextile and geogrid technologies. This allows our technical team to assess each project individually and recommend the solution best suited to the site conditions, performance requirements and environmental objectives. Whether supporting wind farm developments, forestry roads, temporary access routes or permanent infrastructure, Lotrak® geosynthetics help deliver practical, sustainable floating road solutions with confidence.

High-Strength Woven Geotextiles

Lotrak® high-strength woven geotextiles are designed to provide reinforcement and load distribution while allowing rapid installation with minimal ground disturbance. By placing the geotextile directly onto the prepared surface, road construction can often progress quickly with little disruption to the underlying peat. A key benefit of high-strength woven geotextiles is their ability to make effective use of locally sourced fill materials, including suitable borrow pit aggregates. This can significantly reduce the need to import expensive materials, helping to lower construction costs and minimise the project's carbon footprint.

Biaxial Geogrid Solutions

Where ground conditions and design requirements dictate, Lotrak® biaxial geogrids can be used to stabilise aggregate layers through mechanical interlock. By improving load distribution within the construction platform, geogrids help create thinner, more efficient road structures while maintaining performance over weak subgrades. Floating road designs often aim to minimise overall embankment weight to reduce settlement and environmental impact.

Our Stronger by Design approach allows us to develop project-specific solutions using either high-strength woven geotextiles, biaxial geogrids, or a combination of both, ensuring the most appropriate solution for the site, the client and the environment.
