Don & Low has over 225 years’ experience in technical textiles, and currently manufactures an extensive, high performing and flexible range of woven products.
Our technical textiles are predominantly based on polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE). All Don & Low tapes are manufactured with a blend of PP/PE and masterbatch (additives) to provide high quality colour, UV protection and Flame retardancy for a full range of Woven Carpet Weft Yarns (WCWY), Cable Identification Ribbon (CIR), Curtain Header Tape (CHT) and synthetic grass yarns (DLG®).
All of our woven fabrics are manufactured in a computer controlled environment driven by sophisticated software, to produce consistent quality products designed to meet specific customer requirements. Stringent testing and quality control checks ensure that each and every product reaches our highest quality standards.
- Extrusion covers 10,000m2 of floor space and is the start of the process for producing over 140 different tapes and yarns.
- Every day we produce enough yarn to encircle the earth 3 times.
- The beaming area covers 2920m2 of floor space – it can take 1-8 weeks to weave out a beam on a loom.
- The weaving shed covers 22,000 m2 of floor space.
- The weaving shed holds 226 looms – capable of producing up to 4 million m2 per week of floorcoverings and geotextile products enough to cover an area the size of Glasgow every year.
- Technical Textile plant runs 24hrs a day, 7 days a week
The Don & Low technical textile production facility covers Extrusion (spinneret, slit film and multifilament), Twisting, Air texturizing, Beaming, Extrusion Coating and Weaving; as well as Grass Extrusion, texturizing and twisting. Regular investment in production technology results in a constantly evolving range of products in line with market needs.
Production operates around the clock, where waste is reduced to a minimum by conscientious recycling NGR machine and intelligent scheduling; while computer-controlled warehousing provides accurate stock control and fast turn-around.
Some extruded products require a further heat process to relax the tapes and remove residual stresses; thus, providing thermal stabilisation. This additional process not only provides lower shrinkage but also stabilises the finished fabric.
We’re committed to providing continuous training and development for our staff with health and safety being at the heart of everything we do. Our dedicated Quality Assurance team maintains continuous testing, reinforcing our dedication of all stringent testing requirements governed by a framework recognised to BS EN ISO 9001:2015 standards.
